I Don't Want Diamond Sunbursts or Marble Halls

I just want You.

(Anne of Avonlea)

I've been thinking a lot about my wedding.  Its seems appropriate seeing my husband and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary on Monday!  This time last year I was over joyed and on my way to Sanibel Island to meet up with our family.  We spent a few days before the big day basking in the glorious sunshine and shell strewn beaches, enjoying the beautiful ocean with its endless turquoise waves.

Like any girl I had been dreaming of my wedding day since I was little. I had envisioned Andrea Bocelli sweetly singing Sancta Maria in candlelit cloisters on an autumn evening.   I think I must have played this song one million times during my high school years, picking the perfect spot in the song when I would enter to walk down the aisle.

When Bobby and I started the planning we realized the headache of trying to plan a wedding in our home state of Colorado.  I knew my mom and sisters would take the brunt of the planning and I didn't want to burden anyone with such a task.

I remember talking to my older sister one day on the way home from work and she suggested that I get married in Florida.

"hmmmm...."

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about Florida and I wouldn't even know where to start without my mom and sisters there with me.

She kept talking about her idea and I listened.  Getting married in Florida with just our families and then going back to Colorado to have a reception.  The idea grew on Bobby and I and we finally decided that this would be the best thing.

So we started planning our wedding with a new vision in mind.
A simple affair on the beach.

We chose Sanibel Island because I had fallen in love with it when my mom and I had stayed there back in 2010.  It is beautiful and peaceful and lets not state the obvious but its an island!

With a guest list of only 13 I knew I didn't want anything too over the top.  I chose my dream dress, with the help of my twin sister who flew in for a visit, our rings, the venue, and the theme:
Old Florida

I chose simple table decorations of old beach lanterns and candles and our cake was a cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory (yummy!).  I did spend a lot of time on the music because I didn't have a lot of decorations and wanted to set the mood another way.
Jazz standards mixed with old latin and Brazilian jazz.
(I wanted a tropical feel without the steel drums!)

The only thing I had a difficult time with was the song I would walk down the aisle beach to.  I went through hundreds of songs, always coming back to my Andrea Bocelli.  But for some reason it just didn't seem to fit anymore.  I skyped with my twin sister one afternoon telling her my disappointment that my dream song was not the perfect song anymore.  We spent the next few days searching through our gigantic playlists, searching and searching until finally I found it.

Together by Hagood Hardy

The minute I played it I knew it was the song.

My sisters and I had grown up watching the PBS version of Anne of Green Gables and I admit I own the three dvd set and the cd.  We were in love with Gilbert Blythe and would rewind the very end of Anne of Avonlea over and over again.  The scene where Gilbert and Anne are finally together, walking across the bridge on Prince Edward Island.  She finally realizes she has loved him all of these years and he had patiently waited for her.

Its pretty magical
:)

So I chose the song that is played during this scene to walk down the beach to my very own love of my life.  It was perfect.

Friday's Music Pick

Song: With Wings
Artist: Amy Stroup
Album: With Wings

As the wedding party died down and the last piece of chocolate cheese cake was eaten, Bobby and I strolled by the turquoise swimming pool.  The forecast had called for a super moon that night and indeed it had been one.  Moonlight from the giant made the palm trees sparkle in the breeze and the the crash of the waves echoed off the deserted beach. Our families' voices drifted upwards and the sound of Brazilian jazz played in the distance.  I turned to Bobby and said, "Quick, take a picture in your mind of this perfect moment." We stood there, taking it all in, knowing we would remember this night forever.

Wedding Photographs

Bobby and I got our wedding photos the other day!  We anxiously put the CD into the computer and I nervously opened the files, hoping that they had all turned out.  We scrolled through all 700 photos, laughing and remembering the day.  I'm happy to report that I love them!  Please enjoy some of my favorites!

Mrs. Macuen

Well... I am officially married to my best friend!  The weekend was amazing.  There really are no words to describe the incredible joy I feel!  We got to spend time lounging and relaxing on the beach and by the pool with our families, eating good food, enjoying good company, and soaking in beautiful sunsets and supermoons. I am wishing I was still on the island, watching the waves roll up on the shell filled sand and day dreaming of absolutely nothing.

more pictures to come!

It's Raining It's Pouring

It's been raining for 4 days straight.  We are stuck under this gloomy rain cloud that no matter how hard I try to wish away, keeps hanging over our heads.  With almost 4 inches of rain this past weekend, the ground is soggy and little rivers are flowing and mini lakes have formed in everyone's lawns.  This puts a bit of a damper on my wedding plans.  The rain is supposed to be moving on by the end of the week, but I guess its time for me to start thinking about plan B.

Plan B = beach wedding turns into an indoor wedding.

The risk you take for wanting an outdoor wedding I suppose.  But they do say rain is good luck on your wedding day...I guess if it decides to rain then I will do my best to embrace it.  No matter what, as long as I get to say "I do" then it will be a magical day.

six more days :)

1 month

One Month!

One month from today until I will be Mrs. Macuen!

Fall 2005

When I first met Bobby in the Spring of 2005 I knew it was something special.  I had a feeling deep down in my heart that this was something big and was going to last forever.  I can't stop smiling when I think about what I will be doing this time next month :)

I Do

I've been thinking a lot about my wedding lately.  I guess no one can blame me seeing it is a little over a month away! The details are slowly coming together and I will feel relief when the day finally arrives.

I get butterfly's in my stomach, imagining the moment I will walk out onto the beach and walk towards my future husband.  I listen to my "wedding" song on repeat on the way home from work in carpool, blasting it on my ipod.  I can only imagine the emotions and the happiness I will feel.  I know that my imagination only gives me a glimpse into what it will truly be like. Surrounded by our parents and sisters, with the ocean waves gently rolling on and off the shell filled sand, the sea air whispering around us, will be a beautiful moment in time (fingers crossed for no rain :)

What I really like to imagine though is our life afterwards.  Maybe at first it won't be different.  Maybe it will feel a little bit like before.  But I know that it will be different.  I know that I will appreciate the sense of security and perpetuity.  I will enjoy the moments when I am called his wife.  I will take in the moments that we share together as a family, knowing that we are so lucky to have found each other.  When I lay in his arms I will know that we belong to each other.

When I think about my life in five, ten, or twenty years I cannot quite see where I will be.  I don't really know where I want to live or if we will have a big or small family.  Will we still be in Florida?  Will we have one or two cats or just little Cornelius?  The only sure thing I know about my future is that Bobby will be by my side.  That the uncertainty of the future seems a bit less daunting when I know who's hand I will be holding.
